DAVID MENDEZ
David Mendez (El Salvador, 1955) graduated from The Salvadoran Fine
Arts Institute in the late 1970’s. In addition to developing his art, he has
worked as a photojournalist and cinematographer in Central America,
Mexico and Canada. He currently resides in New Orleans.
David’s work is an exciting amalgam of two closely related disciplines. He
generally uses one of his many photographs as a starting point, but
delivers a new concept by manipulating aspects such as tonality and
texture in an intimate, intuitive manner to create his own version of reality,
much like a painter would. “I have no other limits than those of the
imagination,” he says.
The juxtaposition of subject matter and media allows him a means of
expression that is refreshing and revelatory: be it his own take on traditional
New Orleans scenes or the natural visual surprises he is fond of exploring,
David uncovers new details of the world around us with his expert eye.
